Blackberry and Apple Crumble Ingredients List

4 apples, cored and cut into wedges

2 cups fresh or frozen blackberries

1/2 a lemon, juiced

2 tablespoons + ¼ cup of brown sugar, divided

1 ½  teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided

¼  teaspoon ground ginger

¼  teaspoon grated or ground nutmeg

½  teaspoon corn starch

½  teaspoon Kosher salt

½  cup all purpose flour

½  cup rolled oats

¼  cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 stick cold butter, cut into cubes

Method

Set your oven to 375°F.

Peel and core 4 medium apples, then slice them into wedges. Place in a microwave safe bowl and microwave on high for 2-3 minutes, checking every 60 seconds, until apples are slightly softened and juices begin to release.

Combine the apples with 2 cups of blackberries in a mixing bowl. Add lemon juice, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg, salt and cornstarch. Stir until the fruit is coated evenly and set aside.

In another bowl, combine all-purpose flour, remaining 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, light brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla extract and old-fashioned rolled oats. Cut in cold unsalted butter using fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Pour the fruit filling into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the crumble topping over the fruit, covering it completely.

Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling around the edges.

Let the crumble cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
